How to work with 3-4mm thick veneer ?
For sliced thin veneer 0.3-0.6mm, mainly used for plywood or MDF board surface laminating. It needs veneer slicer, veneer clipper, veneer splicer, glue spreader, hot press, sanding machine etc. But for thick veneer 3-4mm, the processing machine will be different.
3-4mm thick veneer can be used to laminate solid wood door, solid wood panel as well as solid wood floor. There are several processures to work with thick veneer.
1. Veneer slicing. Can use frame saw or horizontal saw. Frame saw is like multi rip saw can cut many layers together. Frame saw is suitable for large production floor making.
Frame saw cutting effect
Horizontal band saw can cut one piece per time. So the cutting efficiency is not as high as frame saw. The cutting speed is higher than frame saw. Horizontal band saw is suitable for small production.
2. Edge milling. 0.3-0.6mm veneer can be cut by veneer clipper (guillotine). When veneer thickness reaches to 3-4mm, veneer clipper cannot process the veneer edge well. Then will need another machine: veneer edge milling machine
3. Veneer splicing.
1). Zigzag type for thin veneer laminating
2). Glue spreading type for high quality veneer laminating
4. Veneer gluing + laminating
1). Manual type hot press
5. Veneer sanding
